Soft magic is truly a fitting title here. The words are powerful, refreshing and liberating. No matter how few or how many words Upile chooses to reveal they are sure to sit and linger in your bones. Love the raw simplicity and magical freedom of her words. There is hope for poetry, for words without fear of criticism, for thoughts with heart, for sharing with fearless compassion. Looking forward to more from Chisala.

In the tradition of Nayyirah Waheed and Warsan Shire, Upile Chisala's debut is a collection of moving poetry that touches on subjects such as race and gender. Chisala's writing is raw emotion, she has very obviously poured her heart and soul in to this collection and reading it was a pleasure. I strongly recommend this book to those who enjoy poetry and are fans of poets such as Nayyirah Waheed and Warsan Shire.

You can't read this set of poems and then just put them away. You recite them, and speak them to yourself as often as you can! Absolutely love this book!! It's beautifully written!
